Our History

phase1

In the spring of 1981, three families shared a dream to some day have a Christian Church in Kimberling City. On Sunday, September 13, 1981, their dream became a reality:  First Christian Church of Kimberling City held its first morning worship.  Due to limited finances, these meetings took place at a local Funeral Home which, at that time, was located in the Kimberling City Shopping Center.

In the spring of 1982, the congregation moved to a foyer area in the lower level of Buttonwood Shopping Center. Preaching was provided through laymen from area churches along with professors and students from Ozark Christian College.  On June 1, 1982, a student from Ozark Christian College, was hired as the first full-time minister.  This was made possible by outside support from other churches and Men's Fellowship groups.

Growth throughout the summer and fall required larger and more permanent facilities, resulting in a November move to a storefront building in the Country Club Shopping Center.
With the passing of time, a larger meeting place became available in this same shopping center and was occupied in November of 1984.

In December of 1985, seven lots were purchased at the corner of Hilltop Drive and James River Road. Ground breaking services were held October 5, 1986, and construction of the first building phase began immediately. Worship in the new building began January 4, 1987. Dedication services followed on March 1, 1987, with Ken Idleman, President of Ozark Christian College, speaking.

As God blessed and the congregation continued to grow, phase II of the building was completed in 1991 which included a 200 seat sanctuary, office complex, and additional Sunday School classrooms.  Phase III, which consisted of an educational wing, was completed in 1998. Phase IV, which includes a multi-purpose Family Life Center, Student Refuge, Fellowship Hall and Nursery Facilities was completed in 2003.  But it's not about buildings or numbers. It's about individuals who have come to know Jesus Christ as Savior, marriages that have been saved, families that have been solidified, needy people who have been helped, missionaries who have been sent around the globe, fellowship and joy that have been experienced by the ministry of this on going Branson area Christian Church.

God has been so good!
